Abstract
The purpose of this study is to explore the mediating effects of anger(direct anger out, diffusion) on the associations between COVID-19 challenges and risk drinking among 762 Korean adults in their 20s and 30s by gender. This study used the online survey data conducted by Institute for Life and Culture at Sogang University and multigroup structural equation modeling was used for data analyses. The major study findings are as follows; first, male group showed higher risk drinking than their female counterparts. Second, COVID-19 challenges did not directly impact on risk drinking for both male and female groups. Third, direct anger-out completely mediated the association between COVID-19 challenges and risk drinking for both gender groups. Fourth, no gender differences were found in the associations among COVID-19 challenges, anger, and risk drinking. Based on the study results, we discussed the importance of healthy anger management and practical measures for reducing risk drinking.
